Let’s talk about gut directed hypnotherapy.

Whether you’ve only recently found out about gut directed hypnotherapy, or you’ve known about this alternative treatment for IBS for some time, you’ve likely got some questions.

And I was the same.

Before specialising in IBS and gut-directed hypnotherapy a few years ago, I had lots and lots of questions.

Needless to say, I found my answers, and now I’m here to help you get yours.

So let me answer the most common questions I get so you can better understand this approach, and how it may benefit you.

What is Gut Directed Hypnotherapy and how does it work?

If you’re struggling with IBS symptoms and you’re looking to treat them naturally, then it’s time to get excited.

On average, gut directed hypnotherapy can reduce IBS symptoms by over 70% with no side effects. In fact, over the 40 years since this approach was first used to treat IBS it’s accumulated some very impressive results.

So what exactly is it?

Gut directed hypnotherapy (also known as hypnotherapy for IBS) is a special type of hypnotherapy designed to treat disorders of the gastrointestinal tract, such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

 It can also help manage the symptoms of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), and despite research being more limited in this area, the results are impressive to say the least.

By using hypnotic suggestions that aim to calm the digestive tract, a gut directed hypnotherapist can help you to reduce gut pain, sensitivity and discomfort. They can also help you to normalise bowel movement and frequency.

It’s worth me pointing out that suggestions work whether we need to slow down your bowel movement (in the case of diarrhea), or increase the speed of your bowel (in the case of constipation).

One of the many benefits of gut directed hypnotherapy is its ability to work on your unique symptoms. It can be used regardless of how long you’ve been struggling with IBS, or how severe your IBS is.

Now whilst the exact mechanism of how it works is unknown, we do know once you are in hypnosis you have access to processes that are not usually under your control. This includes subconscious processes such as your digestive system.

In fact, under hypnosis, you can change the amount of stomach acid that your stomach makes, alter the sensitivity of your gut, and even change the way your brain processes signals from the gut.

Why choose gut directed hypnotherapy to manage IBS?

To answer this question, you first need to understand what IBS is and the underlying reason behind your symptoms.

At its heart, IBS is something called a brain-gut dysfunction.

This means that your brain and gut aren’t talking to each other as they should, resulting in incorrect messages being sent between the two. Not good.

And it’s this miscommunication that is triggering your IBS symptoms of pain, bloating, constipation and diarrhea.

So the real answer to lasting relief from IBS is to ‘’fix’’ this miscommunication.

This is what makes gut directed hypnotherapy a welcome alternative to traditional approaches of managing IBS.

Instead of masking the problem with restricting your food or taking medication, it addresses this miscommunication directly.

Now whilst there is technically no cure for IBS, I want to assure you that it is possible for you to reduce your symptoms to such a degree that they no longer show up in your life – in a sense putting symptoms into remission.

IBS does not have to be a life sentence, and you can do something about it.
