How does The Calm gut App work?

The Calm Gut IBS toolkit combines evidence-based techniques delivered via an app to help you self-manage your IBS symptoms from the comfort of your own home.  

Why use hypnotherapy for IBS?

Hypnotherapy for IBS can help you ‘’fix’’ the miscommunication between your gut in brain. Studies have shown that this approach can reduce gut symptoms such as bloating, gas and irregular bowel habits, decrease anxiety and depression, and improve the quality of your life. How does Cognitive Behavioural Therapy help IBS?

CBT is used to help manage IBS symptoms because of the way your thoughts, feelings, behaviours and IBS symptoms are all connected. For example, unhelpful or distressing thoughts can negatively impact how you feel, which can impact how you behave and can trigger gut symptoms. By learning how to manage your mind you can better control anxiety and stress, and your mind’s response to the sensations of pain and discomfort with IBS.

What is your brain-gut connection?

Your brain and gut are intricately linked through a complex system of nerves and chemical signals, enabling constant and bidirectional communication. However, this communication can occasionally experience disruptions. If you have IBS, it may mean that your brain and gut are no longer ‘’talking’’ to each other as they should. Consequently, your brain may transmit signals to your gut that give rise to distressing symptoms, such as pain.
